There is probably a way to create custom code for storing and searching chat history. Here’s a link to the Skype API and Development Kit –

Hi Jerry,

Would you happen to know if there’s a way to store (group) chat history online? Me and my coworkers would like to be able to search for specific keywords when someone wants to know about certain topics discussed in the past.

I’ve been searching my @$$ off, but no online service seems to provide what we need. Please help!

Can anybody offer me any suggestions to recover my Skype account. I lost my password and my email address has changed. I need to also try to recover some messages history. Oddly my Skype account still fires up when I log in to my system. Thanks.

I’m not sure what you mean? Call details should be found under the Skype main window history tab. If you are trying to extract those details from the database files themselves, I don’t know how to do that. Skype does not allow users easy access to that data.

Kuber, what version of Skype were you using when those backups were made?

If it was an older version, be sure to install that version when you swap the files. You can upgrade after you get it sorted out.

Unfortunately, the Skype developers did not make it easy to find any particular Skype chat in the backup files, unless this has changed in later versions.

You might want to search the Web for keywords such as, “Skype Database Reader”.

Skype history chat is formated when my system was formated. My friend gave me his all skype backup. How would i now that which “.dbb” file is to be copied in my skype folder. So that i could see history chat which were chated with my friend.

I had an old external HD backup of skype files from 4 years back, works great! Can see all my chats and export them, read back important information that someone sent me via chat.

Hi last couple of people commenting

If u dont understand the first stages or its not working :( This is for you

Skype 1
I want to see chat history on another Pc or for backup / restore purposes. Copy the Directory/folder (operating system may vary) c:\document and settings\myusername\Application Data\Skype\myusername\

Simply Put, If your using Windows Xp, Vista or 7. Click Start and click on run. In the box Type %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Skype\ Then RIGHT click on the folder which has your skype name, eg. myname and COPY it. Go to when you want to safely store your skype chat history for further use. Right click and PASTE.
You should end up with a folder called myusername or what ever your name is. Go inside it and you should see about 6 folders and other files.
There you go sorted.
To restore the files, install skype on new pc and login with same skype name, then quit skype. click start run. type %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Skype\ Copy and psting your backup folder here. Foldername overwriting folder name.

Hello, not sure if you can help. I have two accounts on skype and about a month ago i lose my skype and when i went to download it again it would only give me one of my accounts, i tried and tried and eventually wrote to skype but the said the skype name i trylocate did not match my emails address, i do not know how this can be as i only have one email address and they said without a paying history they could not help me, all my contacts are on there as well as all my chat history and there in one in particualar that had a lot off info in that i would like to retrieve…how do i retrieve this account if they say i have used a different email account..

Hi, I was wondering why when I use skype from 1 pc I see the full chat history, but from another pc I cannot.

I was under the assumption that once a party was online the chat history should sync from their pc to mine???

BTW, it’s a new install on 2nd pc, so only have 2 days of chat’s there, compared to months of chats on 1st pc.

Dear Jerry

I have used 3 different wondows xp based laptops to do my skype chats, one of which is the main machine. Now I am changing over to a single MacPro Laptop.

Can I copy all the previous skype history files from previous 3 laptops, integrate them and then copy them over to my new MacPro machine?

Please advise me how to do it, in detail, please. I will be grateful. Please noet that most of the skype chats are chats only, no files or voicemails in them. They are very important fro my business discussions.
