Hi,

I have a small issue, a friend of mine used my skype to chat with someone else, and the other person he chat with him still as my contact and i can see him online sometimes but the point is my friend deleted 4 sentences from which he wrote and he left the whole chat as it is so i can see what they wrote but without this 4 sentences, so is it possible to get them back, and does the G-recorder works with that ?

P.s. i am using windows vista and the latest virgin of skype and the chat history is less that a month.

Hi,

I typed in /htmlhistory into the chat text area as instructed but nothing happens. I tried that for different chats and even on different computers but nothing seems to be popping out.

On Mac the files will be under ~/Library/Application Support/Skype

Unfortunately i didnt get
“Application Data\Skype\” the path in my system. could you help me. i have installed skype in my c drive. i want to keep backup and then restore it of all history .

The best option to this that I can think of is to install skype in your data partition (or in My Documents if you don’t have a separate data partition). That way, when you back up your data, you will automatically back up all your skype chats. When you reinstall your OS, or move to a new computer, your data should not be affected and your skype and its chat history should be exactly as it was when you last used it. Incidentally, I do the same with Firefox, which backs up your bookmarks, history etc.

FCA, did you locate your “Application Data” folder, yet?

In your Windows “My Computer” navigate to the “C” drive. Then look for “Documents and Settings”.

You may have several users on your machine, including “All Users”, so you’ll need to find the correct one.

But each one will look like this: “C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\”

Correction, the above posting screwed up the path. Here’s the correct one:

Copy your Skype-account folder (which I’m just gonna call *your username* here), including all its content from:

“*System hard drive, likely C:*\Documents and Settings\*Windows Username, likely Administrator*\Application Data\Skype\*your username*”

…to:

“*System hard drive, likely C:*\Users\*Windows username*\AppData\Roaming\Skype\*your username*”

Hey folks,

here’s how to copy your entire saved Skype history over from Windows XP to Windows 7 (might work for Windows Vista as well).

Copy your Skype-account folder (which I’m just gonna call here), including all its content from:

“\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Skype\”

…to:

“\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Skype\”

And voila! Using Skype 4.x, it worked perfectly. I just had to figure out the above path today, and thought that I might be able to help others who are having the same problem by posting it here.

hey.i have a problem with skype. In the morning when i logged in it said my pw has just changed,which i did not.and when i tried to get temporary pws from skype,it didnt process it and told that there has been a techinical problem.

I went to my skype folder under program files and I couldn’t find application data or my SN anywhere on a folder. What am I doing wrong? Plus for some reason search turns up no results.

Hi Boyana,

You know, I don’t even own an iPhone (yet?) so I can’t help you with that.

As far as I know, /htmlhistory only works up to skype version 3.8 . However, there is a way to get it to work with 4.x but it’s rather complicated. I may write a post on it at some point. But it probably won’t help you if your iphone isn’t even keeping a history at all.

Hey! I’m using an iphone and pretty much all the chat history disappears after just a little bit . The problem came when it turned out the other person was not even getting the messages I sent when they were offline.
Does anyone have more experience with skype on iPhone? Is there a way to keep the chronology on the phone or that’s only for comp?
P.S. Tried the /htmlhistory and didn’t work :(((
