Meta tags have been and is being abused by overzealous SEO guys. Google should develop a method to vote up/down search results (yes, this too is open to abuse, but on a much lesser extent) and use 'crowd sourcing' to improve results.

I keep cracking up over people advocating the keyword meta tag to improve Google rankings. Google recently came out and flat out said that they don't read it.

I still do it, though, because Yahoo! reads it. Wonder what will happen when Yahoo! switches to Bing. :(

Akismet is blocking from jerryleventer.com any of our grad students who use toyperiod.com as a home page.

Let me explain.

With few exceptions, our business graduate students have been rejected by sites using Akismet.

All it takes is one request from a blogger anywhere for Akismet to ban any home site, whether the blogger is delivering spam or not. (None of our graduate students deliver spam. They are very intelligent commenters who like and enjoy your site, but have stopped visiting here, because Akismet is blocking them on your behalf.)

I am taking the time to write this because I believe your blog to be of high quality, and one from which both you and our graduate students would profit.

If you wish to have our grad students resume visiting your blog, please e-mail me at the College at avoisin@lindachristas.org, and I will place you on our faculty chart as a welcoming blog.

However, Akismet will have to lift the ban on ToysPeriod for you, or you will have to unplug your blog from Akismet.

The person to write to is Alex Shiel at Akismet at support@akismet.com

If you have not blocked ToyPeriod personally, that is even worse. Akismet has been known to universalize blocking.

That is, if one blogger anywhere reports a home page as spam, from then on, ANY person using that website as home page is blocked.

I do hope to hear from you.

If you ever wish to monetize your blog, Akismet will at some time or another have to be disconnected. Otherwise, as with our grad students, visitors will continue to be blocked, even if it is the first time they have ever visited your good site.

No matter how skillful a person is relative to SEO or marketing, and, obviously Jerry ranks among the most talented, at the end of the day, one has to have deep knowledge in an area or a fabulous skill for people to be willing to buy anything or come back for more.

I had never actually seen anyone make money on the net until early in 2009, when my sister found Linda Christas. Even folks with good blogs were not able to segue that to financial gain.

Sherry, my sis, made $61,000 working as an online recruiter for Linda Christas Academy/College in 2009, by far the most money I had seen anyone in my circle of acquaintances earn by blogging.

They pay her $500 for every student who enrolls in a program and $1,000 stipend if the student enrolls in an entire curriculum.

Both franchise fees and training fees have been eliminated now that Linda Christas can afford to provide those services to recruiters for free.

The College doesn't recruit recruiters. Their attitude is if a person is not a sufficient self starter to contact them, they won't contact others online either.

All my sister Sherry did was contact them. They wanted to see her blog, and her writing style. After all, they are a college and can't be having someone who is out of control or who can't write represent them.

But, after that, she was accepted and thinks she is in online heaven, since she can actually make a good living from home now.

Might be something someone here would like to try. Sherry tells me they are great to work with, pay promptly, students re-enroll and therefore provide residuals to recruiters, and LC is still in the market for good recruiters as they switch from traditional advertising to paying recruiters.

First step, contact the College.

Another thing, employers are now starting to prefer online degree holders since by definition they have to be self starters to have earned a degree that way, and online degree holders tend to be maturer not have spent four years drinking beer and going to football games.

Anyway, their degree programs are top notch, accredited, and Linda Christas offers a lifetime employment service to its graduates as well. Sounds like a whole package to me.

It is amazing how little information "out there" on the net is reliable.

For example, I had heard and believed the MetaTag information.

I have also heard many things about Google being in control or out of control relative to backlinks since the programming duties at Google are spread over a hundred programmers, no one programmer has a clue what his or her piece of the Google pie will do to the overall ranking of a site.

Therefore, Google is a mystery to all outside Google because it is a mystery to those inside as well.

It's sort of like the concept of God. If no one knows for sure, people of all stripes can be worlds apart in their beliefs, and no one can tell them they are wrong.

Looks like you have your own SEO business, now. But I don't see your name anywhere? Your blog has some good information about Google.

I wonder what SearchWiki is going to do to our hard-won keyword rankings...

What tool do you suggest for keyword rank tracking? I notice you mention SEOMOZ.com. Do you have preference for that?

I used to work for a self-proclaimed "SEO Expert" that would insist that google "liked" seeing its name: , so he'd add it to every page he worked on.

I've seen some funny things over the years.

very useful, Google ignores meta keywords now because they were being abused. But if you put in a good meta description then people will more easily be able to see what your web site is about in the search results.

To rank well, here is what I do to rank well in the SERP's.

Step 1 - write good quality content that your readers will want to read.

Step 2 - post unique versions of your article at quality article directories and blogs etc.

Step 3 - Deep link your content that point back deep within your site.

Step 4 - rinse and repeat

Thanks for the insights and I think too many times people get confused on where to start and what to do. I like to keep things simple, yet my results prove it time and time again to ranking well. Write and post content. Get back links is the key.

Cheers
